Peggy - Queenstown – New Zealand

Holiday home on Lake Queenstown: architecture, nature and designer lighting

Overlooking the shores of Lake Queenstown in New Zealand, this holiday home has been redesigned by Stephanie Phillips Architect to embrace the most authentic moments of family life. A contemporary retreat designed to be enjoyed in every season, where days in the snow, long dinners with friends and moments of relaxation find their natural balance in warm, bright and welcoming spaces.

The interiors, designed by Sarsfield Brooke in close collaboration with the clients, feature a palette of neutral tones and natural materials that allow the landscape to take centre stage. The large openings to the outside foster a continuous dialogue between architecture, interior design and nature, whilst the furnishings and finishes help to create elegant, timeless spaces, designed to adapt naturally to the different times of day.

Peggy: a blown-glass lamp takes centre stage in the dining area

Taking centre stage in the dining area is Peggy, the Vistosi collection designed by Hangar Design Group, which reinterprets the tradition of Murano blown glass through a contemporary lens. Born out of the design studio’s exploration of the interplay between material, light and geometry, the design combines the lightness of blown glass with the tactile presence of metal, creating a lamp with a minimalist yet highly expressive character.

The glass diffuser, characterised by a soft, enveloping shape, casts a uniform and delicate light, ideal for creating an intimate and convivial atmosphere around the table. More than just a light fitting, Peggy becomes a piece of furniture that enhances moments of togetherness and establishes a harmonious dialogue with the architecture and the landscape that unfolds beyond the large windows.

Its clean lines and the perfect balance between volumes, transparency and finishes reflect the design philosophy of Hangar Design Group, which has always been focused on creating objects that combine function, identity and aesthetic value. The pendant light blends harmoniously with the interior design, enhancing the space without ever overwhelming it. The transparency of the glass enhances the brightness of the room and creates a refined play of reflections that changes throughout the day, following the natural light coming from the lake.

Crafted in accordance with the ancient Murano glass-blowing tradition, Peggy embodies all the artisanal quality and design innovation that characterise Vistosi. Each lampshade is the result of work carried out by hand by master glassmakers, where traditional craftsmanship meets the innovation of contemporary design. The result is a designer lamp that blends naturally into residential projects and hospitality spaces, whilst retaining its own distinct character.

In this lakeside residence in Queenstown, designer lighting becomes an integral part of the architecture, helping to shape the character of the rooms and enhance everyday life. The light highlights materials, proportions and details, reinforcing the connection between indoors and outdoors. The result is a project in which Italian design, Murano art glass and the landscape coexist in perfect harmony, creating an elegant, welcoming and timeless space.
