Balance - Muskoka, Ontario

Beach Bays Cottage, located on Bowers Bay in Parry Sound, Ontario, overlooks Robertson Island in Georgian Bay, an eastern part of Lake Huron. The unspoiled site was characterized by the natural granite veins of the Canadian Shield and offered spectacular views to the west, which inspired a design intended to highlight these vistas. The lakefront cottage blends harmoniously with the surrounding landscape. The design of Beach Bays Cottage features earthy, understated tones and expansive glass walls, allowing the building to merge with its natural surroundings. The architecture was conceived to emerge directly from the bedrock, creating a harmonious relationship with the environment. Construction required excavating into the granite, but the extracted stone was reused as building material, helping to further anchor the house in its natural environment. The project highlights the expressive power of the Balance collection; the soft curves of the diffuser create a fluid and light silhouette, characterized by a central concavity that lends depth and dynamism to the overall design.
