Gregorio Spini

designer

Born in Milan in 1958, Gregorio Spini is a designer and entrepreneur who has built his professional career through diverse experiences, developing a vision of design that combines creativity, strategy, and corporate culture. His multidisciplinary approach stems from the belief that design must be multifaceted, open to dialogue between different disciplines, and capable of generating value not only through the product, but also through communication, innovation, and the construction of a brand's identity.

A key figure in the lighting design scene, in 1996 he founded Kundalini, a company that quickly established itself internationally as one of the most innovative brands in the sector. Under his leadership, the brand collaborates with some of the most important figures in contemporary architecture and design, including Norman Foster, Zaha Hadid, Future Systems, Alessandro Mendini, Paola Navone, and Karim Rashid, helping to redefine the language of lighting through constant formal and technological research.

After leaving Kundalini in 2008, Spini embarked on a new path as a freelance designer and strategic consultant, expanding his scope beyond product design. In 2010, he co-founded the Colani Design Corporation (CDC), dedicated to promoting and disseminating the work of visionary designer Luigi Colani. In 2013, he launched Delight Design, an entrepreneurial project that promotes a new interpretation of Made in Italy, based on self-production, craftsmanship, and a strong connection to the local area.

His design work is guided by continuous experimentation, where form, technology, and strategic vision coexist in balance. For Spini, design is not simply the creation of an object, but a cultural process capable of engaging companies, designers, and users in an ongoing dialogue. This vision leads him to develop products characterized by an essential language, leaving room for material, light, and perceptual experience.

His collaboration with Vistosi marked his first encounter with the world of Murano blown glass, a material he had long desired to explore. In 2011, he created the Bot and Implode collections for the company, two projects united by a refined exploration of the purity of form and the expressive potential of glass. Through the layering of white glass and crystal, the collections create delicate effects of depth and light diffusion, transforming essential geometries into objects of great visual balance. Bot and Implode represent the encounter between Spini's design sensibility and Vistosi's extraordinary manufacturing tradition, resulting in collections that express discreet and timeless elegance.

Throughout his career, Gregorio Spini has combined his design work with an intense commitment to promoting design culture, curating exhibitions, editorial projects, and international events, including the cultural section of Moscow Design Week. Through each initiative, he continues to champion a vision of design as an open, dynamic, and multidimensional discipline, capable of interpreting societal changes and transforming them into projects that combine innovation, culture, and quality.
