A Landmark Project in the Revival of a Parisian Icon

Among the most significant hotel renovation projects of recent years, the restoration of the Hotel Lutetia has returned one of Paris’s most emblematic buildings to its former glory. Built between 1910 and 1918 in the heart of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, the Lutetia has long been a gathering place for artists, intellectuals, and travelers from around the world. Following its closure in 2014, the hotel underwent an ambitious transformation led by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, aimed at preserving its historic character while reinterpreting it through a contemporary vision of luxury hospitality.

As part of this prestigious redevelopment, Vistosi was commissioned to create two bespoke lighting sculptures, specifically designed for the hotel’s public areas and developed in close collaboration with the project team.

Light as an Architectural Element

From the earliest stages of the project, the lighting installations were conceived as an integral part of the architectural language of the new Lutetia. More than decorative features, the sculptures created by Vistosi were designed to engage in dialogue with the surrounding spaces, enhancing their volumes and contributing to the overall atmosphere of the interiors.

The collaboration with Wilmotte & Associés Architects resulted in a highly tailored development process, in which every detail was carefully engineered to meet the project's specific aesthetic and technical requirements. The outcome is a pair of striking installations that bring a strong visual presence to the interiors, expressing their identity through the interplay of materiality, transparency, and the quality of light.

The excellence of Venetian glass at the service of design

The creation of the sculptures required significant research and development work by the Vistosi team. One of the main challenges involved stabilising the colour of the glass, a particularly delicate process that demanded advanced technical skills and a deep understanding of traditional craftsmanship.

The experience gained over more than five hundred years of glassmaking tradition enabled the team to successfully tackle every stage of production, transforming a complex design concept into a tangible element that is perfectly integrated into the hotel’s architecture. The glass thus becomes the focal point of the space, capable of capturing and diffusing light with elegance, creating refined and ever-changing visual effects.

The Hotel Lutetia project is a significant example of Vistosi’s ability to develop fully bespoke solutions for the international contract sector. From the design phase through to prototyping, production and final installation, every step was managed with a bespoke approach, aimed at ensuring maximum consistency between creative vision and technical execution.

The ability to interpret the needs of architects and designers, combined with production flexibility and continuous research into innovation, enables Vistosi to tackle highly complex projects in exclusive settings, offering lighting solutions that combine aesthetic value, build quality and reliability

A dialogue between historical heritage and contemporary design

In the new Hotel Lutetia, light helps to tell a story woven from memory, elegance and innovation. The light sculptures created by Vistosi blend harmoniously into a design that has successfully preserved the building’s original charm, whilst introducing a contemporary aesthetic capable of meeting the demands of modern hospitality.

Through glass and light, Vistosi is contributing to the rebirth of one of Paris’s most iconic locations, confirming its ability to transform Venetian manufacturing tradition into design solutions of excellence for international architecture. A project that demonstrates the value of the dialogue between craftsmanship, innovation and design culture – elements that have always defined the brand’s identity.
