Founded in 1966, Renato Toso, Noti Massari & Associati is one of the studios that best represents the intersection of architecture, design, and Murano glass culture. Born from the partnership between Renato Toso, born in Murano in 1940, and Giovanna Noti Massari, born in Venice in 1939, the studio was subsequently enriched by the presence of their children Anna, Marco, Pio, and Tito, transforming it into a design laboratory where experience, tradition, and new sensibilities intertwine naturally. Their story is guided by a simple and profound belief: design is a family affair, a wealth of knowledge that is passed down, renewed, and grown through daily exchange.
Graduated in Architecture from the IUAV University of Venice, Renato Toso and Giovanna Noti Massari have developed a design method that seamlessly intertwines architecture, interior design, exhibition design, and product design. Their work is based on a rigorous design methodology, in which creativity and technical expertise coexist harmoniously. Each project stems from a focus on function, the pursuit of balance between form and material, and the desire to create objects and spaces designed to last.
Their connection with Murano glass is one of the cornerstones of their identity. Raised in the historic Fratelli Toso glassworks, Renato Toso developed a first-hand knowledge of glassmaking techniques from an early age, an experience that would profoundly influence the studio's entire production. This culture also informs their relationship with Leucos, the company they were instrumental in founding and with which they share a vision that combines manufacturing tradition, innovation, and design research.
Over the years, the studio has collaborated with some of the most important Italian and international companies, including Artemide, Foscarini, Leucos, Cattelan Italia, Estel, Alpi, and many others, developing products, architecture, installations, and redevelopment projects. At the same time, it has completed social and cultural projects, such as the monasteries designed in Tanzania for the Camaldoli Benedictine Community, confirming a vision of design capable of adapting to different contexts, cultures, and scales.
The collaboration with Vistosi stems from a shared desire to showcase Murano blown glass through a contemporary language. For the company, the studio designed the Ecos and Infinita collections, two projects that differently interpret the relationship between modularity, light, and material. Ecos stands out for its modular system of glass rings available in different colors and textures, offering great compositional freedom and highlighting the expressive richness of Murano glass. Infinita, on the other hand, interprets light through soft, essential forms, creating elegant, diffused atmospheres that enhance the purity of the material. Both collections demonstrate the studio's ability to combine technical innovation, design culture, and artisanal mastery.
Over the course of its long career, Renato Toso, Noti Massari & Associati has received numerous awards, including several selections for the ADI Compasso d'Oro, prizes at the Venice Biennale and the Milan Triennale, the Andrea Palladio Award, the IIDA Award, and important selections from the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. Their works have been exhibited at internationally prestigious institutions such as the Louvre, the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), and the Corning Museum of Glass, confirming the studio's contribution to the history of Italian design and the promotion of the Murano glassmaking tradition.
